Principal's Message

Schurr High School is a special place, and I am happy to once again lead the team of teachers, administrators, and staff who work together with the parents and community to ensure the best possible education for our students.  We have many reasons to celebrate our students and their success, as well as many goals to work towards as the school year progresses.

We completed the process for our accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges last spring, earning a six-year term. We offer sixteen College Board Advanced Placement courses and have three courses for Dual Enrollment at East Los Angeles College available on our campus. Our Engineering and Global Business Pathways programs are involved with project-based learning, and our Advancement Via Individual Development (AVID) program is working to increase college readiness.

Our athletic programs are committed to building the qualities of discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The Renaissance Program recognizes student achievement and motivates students to work together to develop leadership skills. Our United Student Body (USB) officers work with student leaders to offer extracurricular clubs and activities aimed at developing and enhancing student involvement and interaction.

Students from our school have won awards in competitions at the local, state, and national levels in areas ranging from speech and debate, career technical education, journalism, music and art. We have alumni attending prestigious colleges including Harvard, Yale, UC Berkeley, UCLA, and USC, and many of our alumni have entered public service, and been elected to office. We are proud to have alumni as current faculty, staff, and administrators. The commitment of our graduates to the legacy of Schurr High School is notably strong, and it is one of the qualities which sets our school and community apart from others.

We have a strong commitment to providing students with the very best opportunities to learn, grow, and develop their abilities at this crucial time in their lives in an atmosphere that is inspiring, supportive, and caring.
